Procedural music / ByteBeat

Some people thend to make a shortcut from procedural music to ByteBeat . Of course, ByteBeat music is generated by a procedure, 1 procedure to be precise. But it's the lowest level of generation. Only 1 procedure, and with as few operations as possible. For me, ByteBeat is a form of procedural music, a very specific form; and though many people like ByteBeat music and are fascinated by these short programs (including me), it's not the same deal. At least, the NoMan'sSky version of ByteBeat keeps the spirit of ByteBeat but proposes something more powerful, though being still simple in its concept. About coding well - DukeNukem3D code

I recently discovered the site of a french developper who travelled many times across oceans and between companies. Fabien really loves coding, like me; and even more, he likes analysing existing code to learn by itself from masters, or from others. I was happy to see someone (apart from John CARMACK) giving such importance to well coding : architecture, design, coding rules (names, metrics, etc) and so on. And it reassures me in how I manage to develop my Procedural Music Generator project : I want to make something that I could go back and forth with the minimum sordid details in mind (like using a generic name variable and asking myself what it is used for); and also a project that anyone could re-use, modify, and enhance. It is interesting to compare Doom code with DukeNukem3D one. Duke was amazing and in many ways better than Doom (faster, using less CPU, more features, slopped walls, etc) but in the end, its code is unmaintainable ! SPMG and WOTJA

Still thinking about my "procedural music generator" (please note that I don't use the term "generative", too often used, and maybe not well suited for my FiniteStateMachine concept), I downaloded the demo of WOTJA on my iPhone. Sounds very good, its Braid generator is great for ethearal ambient sounds. Reading the Intermorphic Wotja guide... Some nice ideas, but actually, a bit limited in building songs; and the app use its own sound generation system instead of relying on OpenSoundCountrol.
